Dance Courses Offerings & Descriptions
The Department of Kinesiology actively collaborates with the Department of Theatre and the Department of Music. This interdisciplinary focus is reflected in performances that involve students who major in other fields, outside the Major in Kinesiology. Currently kinesiology courses in dance technique and dance theory reflect our commitment to supporting the educational requirements of today’s dancers. Students have an opportunity to increase their technical skills in diverse dance styles ranging from the traditional demands of classical ballet to the urban street dances such as hip hop and break dancing. Ballroom, jazz, modern, somatic practices and dance conditioning are available to round out the technical demands of the dancer. Courses in choreography support the skills needed to create new dance works. More advanced choreography courses inform students about the demands of preparing for performances on the stage. Students have an opportunity to experience the rigors of dance education in several of the kinesiology courses that focus on dance pedagogy. Currently many dance courses are offered in the fall and spring semesters, with some being offered only in one semester each year. Please see the following for further details:
