Application Process
The accredited Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) at CSUN requires a selective admission process. Meeting all application requirements does not guarantee admittance to the ATEP. The prerequisite courses and application requirements are outlined below.
Application Requirements
1. Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended, including CSUN. Admission requires an overall grade point average of 2.5 with a minimum GPA of 2.75 on all prerequisite course work, with no grade lower than C-. Visit www.assist.org to verify transfer course equivalents. The prerequisite courses include:

2. Complete a minimum of 60 hours of observation with a certified athletic trainer. Fifty of the sixty observation hours must occur within the high school, college or professional athletic training room/clinic. Ten hours may be accumulated with a supervising ATC in a rehabilitation clinic. Hours must be documented and signed by the supervising ATC.
3. Complete a formal application to the Athletic Training Education Program. Application available on-line.
4. Submit three letters of recommendation from sources, who will verify your ability to successfully complete a program of rigorous academic study, to deal effectively with patients/clients, and to work in an allied health setting. Forms available on-line.
5. Complete a personal interview with the Admission Selection Committee.
6. Submit proof of or waiver of hepatitis B vaccination, immunization for measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, and diphtheria. Verification provided by physician as part of the Academic and Professional Standards.
7. Submit proof of a physical examination (by having the physician sign the Academic and Professional Standards) for the ergonomic tasks required to complete the NATA competencies for athletic training knowledge and skill acquisition.
8. Submit proof of First Aid and Emergency Cardiac Care or CPR for the Professional Rescuers.
