STUDY TEAM MEMBERS

Dr. S. Victoria Jaque, Ph.d.

Dr. Jaque is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, California State University, Northridge, with expertise in the value of physical exercise as an intervention method to enhance bone accretion and muscular strength in young women. For the current investigation, her co-investigators include epidemiologists, statisticians, gynecologists, endocrinologists, and internists. In addition, she has been involved in the design and completion of intervention studies to enhance muscle mass in HIV and age-related sarcopenia. As with her previous investigations, she will oversee the acquisition, analysis and interpretation of all data obtained from each subject throughout the study.

Carrie Rawding Graduate Student

This is my last year of graduate work and I am currently working on my thesis. I am currently a Research Study Coordinator and will continue to participate in pharmaceutical research after graduating.

Chris McClain Undergraduate Student

Senior, graduating in 2006, studying exercise science; with a goal to pursue doctoral studies in exercise physiology. I am assisting Dr. Jaque with research, subject fitness testing and recruitment.

Janet Banks Graduate Student

I am in the last year of graduate work, starting my thesis project soon. I am currently a Physical Education teacher and would love to continue to work with children at the secondary education level. For the study I assist with data entry and management.

Llanel Florendo Study Coordinator

I am a junior, studying exercise science with a minor in Chicano studies. My future goal is to teach at the university level and conduct research within the fields of exercise physiology and physical therapy. I am currently working with Dr. Jaque as the Research Study Coordinator.

I am a senior, graduating in 2005, studying exercise science; I plan to pursue a career as an exercise physiologist in health promotion. My main focus working in the lab is to educate people regarding osteoporosis, functioning as a recruiter.

Ryan Theilacker Undergraduate Student

I am pursuing a Masters degree in Kinesiology and currently work as a rehabilitation registered nurse. I am working on my thesis that looks at preventing bone mineral density loss in acute spinal cord injuries. My goal is to be an exercise physiologist and work with people with disabilities.
