I am currently a senior at California State University Fresno, majoring in Food Science and Nutrition, Dietetics and will be graduating in the spring of 2012. I have been given the opportunity to practice what I love the most, nutrition, with Clinica Sierra Vista WIC as a Nutrition Assistant for the past year. I was born and raised in California and have a passion for outdoor activities that consist of traveling and exploring new places. Ever since I can remember I have always had a thriving passion for anything in the medical field, but now I have shifted my focus and fell in love with Nutrition. This is my first time attending the Nutrition Bowl and I am looking forward to this great opportunity and challenge.

I am currently a senior within the Dietetics and Food Administration major at Fresno State, and plan to graduate Fall 2012. Though the life of a dietetics’ major is challenging, I strive to overcome and perform to the fullest extent in everything I do. I am an active member of my school’s Student Dietetic Association, where I share my enthusiasm for nutrition with my peers in multiple community service opportunities, and document our club's activities as the official historian. My passion for nutrition and community health runs deep, and I am continually inspired by the admirable examples set by my educators and peers to keep pushing forward in my dreams of becoming a Registered Dietitian. Someday I hope to make a positive impact and truly give back to the community I live in by becoming a nutrition educator and providing my services as an RD to those in need.

I am currently a senior in the Culinology® program at California State University, Fresno and will be graduating May 2012. I started working in foodservice at the age of 18 and never looked back. Currently I am a line cook at Victory Grill in Fresno, CA and have done internships the past two summers within the food industry. One was with Tenaya Lodge located just outside Yosemite National Park where I worked in the kitchen as a line cook. Also this passed summer, I worked for Alaska General Seafoods in Naknek, AK as a Quality Control technician. My food philosophy is based on a quote from Thomas Keller in The French Laundry Cookbook. He states “When you acknowledge, as you must, that there is no such thing as perfect food, only the idea of it, then the real purpose of striving toward perfection becomes clear: to make people happy, that is what cooking is all about.” So perfection is something that I always strive for, but as long as my food is making people happy, then it doesn’t matter if it’s perfect
