Professor Emeritus, Child & Adolescent Development
Dr. Kelly's passion for teaching, mentoring (especially underrepresented populations of students), and professionalizing child and youth care has encompassed the Department of Child and Adolescent Development at California State University Northridge and at national and international levels.
She has taught at Cal State Northridge since 1969. While serving as the Program Coordinator for the Interdisciplinary Program in Child Development, the program became a full-fledged academic department, a new curriculum was implemented, and 5 new tenure-track faculty positions were filled. Through her leadership, she has facilitated several innovations which include: a department advising website, the student-peer advisor program, and the nationally recognized JumpStart Early Childhood Education Program.
Her interest in diversity led to conceptualizing and providing key leadership for a Cal State Northridge Peace Exposition encompassing more than 60 community agencies, and involvement campus-wide.
Her mentoring has included working with doctoral students, launching students' careers, and participating at international conferences. Dr. Kelly has served on university committees such as the Graduation Task Force Committee, and the International Education Committee as well as numerous college- and department-level committees.
Dr. Kelly worked with John Bowlby at the Tavistock Clinic and served as Senior Consultant for the International Year of the Family at the United Nations in Vienna. She serves as a United States' representative for the International Federation of Educative Communities (FICE) - a UNESCO affiliate focusing on high risk children and adolescents.
She has presented at international conferences in South Africa, Canada, the Netherlands, and Romania. In addition, she has provided opportunities for faculty and students to present at international conferences.

Among her current publications are articles in two international journals. Dr. Kelly has worked in Romania on the implementation of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child. She has also written and produced multiple videos. She serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Child and Youth Care Work. Dr. Kelly has received the Distinguished Teaching Award at California State University, Northridge. She has also been selected as a member of the Ohio Womens' Hall of Fame and has membership in numerous honoraria.
