The Department of Child and Adolescent Development at the California State University, Northridge welcomes applications for one full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor position beginning Fall 2010.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a doctorate in child development, developmental psychology, educational psychology or a closely- related discipline. ABD candidates will be considered, but must have a doctorate in hand at the time of appointment, Fall 2010. Specific area of expertise within the field of child and adolescent development is open, but the candidate must be committed to teaching in an interdisciplinary program that prepares students for direct-service careers with children and families or for pursuing advanced degrees in the field. Priority will be given to candidates who have or can document the ability to establish a systematic program of research and effectively teach a diverse undergraduate student population. Candidates who incorporate cultural perspectives on child development, both in teaching and research, are encouraged to apply. Experience establishing and maintaining collaborations with community-based programs, experience mentoring students from culturally diverse backgrounds, or the ability to develop and offer on-line courses or courses utilizing other electronic technologies is highly desirable. Applicant must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.

CSUN is a Learning Centered University. The successful candidate will be expected to join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable students to graduate.

At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.

Responsibilities:

Teach undergraduate courses in child and adolescent development, including upper-division courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and/or other upper-division courses. Maintain an active research program. Collaborate with community-based organizations and agencies. Serve on department, college, and university committees. Mentor CADV students toward professional objectives.
