Accelerated Bachelor of Science In Nursing: Pinning Ceremony 2014 August

October 29, 2014

The August 2014 graduating class of the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (A-BSN) was the 12th cohort.  Since the inception of the A-BSN in 2007, over 150 students have graduated from this intensive, 15-month program.  In keeping with tradition, the Pinning Ceremony was the culminating event. Department Chair Marianne Hattar and Assistant Chair Samira Moughrabi orchestrated the event, sponsored by our community partners at Valley Presbyterian Hospital.

When receiving the pin, the newly graduated nurses recite the Nightingale Pledge. The pins–specifically designed for the CSUN nursing class in 1996–display the image of an oil lamp, symbolizing the lamp used by Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern-day nursing.

The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing is for students who hold a bachelor’s degree and want to earn the (BSN) and qualify to take the RN licensing exam in 15 months. Students who enter the programs with their RN already in place can enhance their education through the BSN or the public health nursing certificate.
