RTM Students to Benefit from On-Campus Hilton Garden Inn

A 149-room, on-campus Hilton Garden Inn hotel will serve campus visitors and the surrounding community, with construction anticipated to begin in 2020 for a 2021 opening. “The hotel also benefits our students in CSUN’s Department of Recreation and Tourism Management (RTM) by providing invaluable internships and real-world learning opportunities,” said CSUN President Dianne F. Harrison. A requirement of the project will be that the hotel obtain a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification. Read more

Fresh Produce for Low Income Valley Residents

On the fourth Friday of every month, volunteers, students and staff members with CSUN's CalFresh Healthy Living initiative in Canoga Park load boxes of fresh produce into the backs of cars for distribution in the community to provide the area’s low-income residents with healthy food options. CSUN's CalFresh Healthy Living collaborates with Food Forward, Follow Your Heart, Earth Island Natural Foods, Freedom Church and about a dozen additional local community-based organizations. HHD Has Instrumental Role in NIH Supported BUILD PODER

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded CSUN $19 million over the next five years as the second and final award in a ten year effort to support diversity in the biomedical workforce through the undergraduate research-training program, BUILD PODER. Health Sciences faculty Patchareeya Kwan, a member of the BUILD PODER faculty core team said, “The end goal of the faculty core is to increase research grant applications, grant awards and publications in high-impact journals among CSUN faculty and students."
