Dr. Jerry Ann Harrel-Smith has been teaching lifespan development, intergenerational studies, and childcare administration in the department of Family and Consumer Sciences @ CSUN since 1997. Since 2003 she has been the Executive Director of the Child and Family Studies Center @ CSUN. The Center is accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children as a full inclusion preschool/kindergarten serving the care/educational needs of 78 young children. The Center has been a teaching unit of the department of Family and Consumer Sciences since 1965.
Ph.D. in Education (2006) from Claremont Graduate University, her dissertation focused on CSUN students’ relationships with their grandparents. Co-PI of the service-learning grant Vitality Across the Lifespan (1998-2005) from the USDA. M.S. degree (1997) from CSUN in Family and Consumer Sciences. Completed graduate internships in intergenerational studies at ONEgeneration and in gerontology at the Jewish Homes for the Aging.
