After recent consultation with Medtronic, we are postponing the deadline for the CSUN/Medtronic MiniMed Call for Proposals. At this time we have not yet established the new deadline date. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.

Office of Research & Sponsored Projects: Grant Writing and Grant Research Services

Dr. Shelley Bartenstein, Research Specialist & Grant Writer in the Office of Research and Services, is interested in finding out about your external funding interests. She can help you refine your ideas, locate possible funding sources, find potential collaborators, and assist with writing your grant proposal. Her grant writing services can include writing the proposal narrative, editing your narrative, providing boilerplate information and institutional data, and providing document samples.

She is also planning a series of one-hour Mini Brown-Bag Seminars, which will include discussions and exploration of the world of grants. Once the schedule is set, we will get the word out via email and this website. US Department of Education Awards Five Year Grant to CSUN's National Center on Deafness

The National Center on Deafness at California State University, Northridge (CSUN)  was chosen as the recipient of the Postsecondary Education Center for Individuals Who are Deaf (CFDA 84.326D) grant award. The Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), which formerly funded four regional centers awarded the funds for one national center to CSUN. We are charged with establishing a NATIONAL technical assistance and dissemination and personnel development center that will improve outcomes for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing or with co-occurring disabilities. Image of Roz RosenThis grant, under the direction of Dr. Roz Rosen, Director of NCOD, has been awarded $4,000,000 for the period October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2012, with an anticipated additional four years of funding.

US Department of Education Awards Five Year Grant to CSUN's College of Engineering & Computer Science

The College of Engineering & Computer Science (CECS) has been chosen to receive a grant under the HSI STEM & Articulation Program, which provides funding for Hispanic Serving Institutions in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Image of S.K. RameshThe collaborative project (in partnership with Glendale Community College (GCC) and College of the Canyons (COC)) will be under the direction of S.K. Ramesh, Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science has been awarded $1,096,856 for the first year and anticipates four additional years of funding. The objectives of the grant are to 1) increase the number of Hispanic and low-income students to successfully transfer from GCC and COC to CSUN to pursue majors in Engineering and/or Computer Science, 2) increase the number of Hispanic and low-income students who graduate from CSUN with degrees from CECS undergraduate programs, and 3) develop a model, seamless transfer program where GCC and COC Hispanic and low-income students can successfully transfer to CSUN where they will complete their studies in Engineering and/or Computer Science.

U.S. Department of Education Awards Five Year Grant to Asian Bilingual Program

Image of Clara ParkDr. Clara Park is the Project Director on a grant received from the USDE's English Language Acquisition: National Professional Development Program for a project entitled "Preparing Asian ESL and Bilingual Teachers for the 21st Century Classroom." This collaborative project (consortia partners are CSU Long Beach, CSU Los Angeles, and CSU Pomona) has been awarded $400,000 for the grant period September 1, 2011 through August 31, 2012, with an additional four years of anticipated funding. The program is designed to (1) prepare teachers of Chinese (Cantonese/ Mandarin), Filipino (Tagalog), Hmong, Korean, and Vietnamese backgrounds for State ESL and bilingual authorization in Asian languages; (2) provide training to in-service teachers (preferably of Asian background) for State ESL or Bilingual Authorization with an MA in Multilingual and Multicultural Education, in order to improve their teaching skills and outcomes for English language learners; and (3) provide training in the use of instructional technology and multicultural education to project students in core subjects (i.e., math, science, English, and social studies) to effectively work with English learners of multilingual and multicultural backgrounds.
