California State University, Northridge (CSUN) views the fraternity and sorority experience as a significant opportunity for student learning and involvement. Students involved with fraternity and sorority life at CSUN build leadership skills, engage in community service and philanthropic efforts, participate in academic success initiatives and join in a wide diversity of social opportunities that foster the establishment of lifelong friendships built upon shared values within their Greek organization. These experiences will in many cases lead to increased university retention and greater institutional commitment as alumni.
The role of the Activities Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life and other fraternity and sorority advising staff at CSUN is to actively support fraternity and sorority life through advising, advocacy and education efforts. Advisors define and develop their efforts utilizing the Council for the Advancement of Standards Guidelines for Fraternity and Sorority Advising Programs, the Association of Fraternity & Sorority Advisors Core Competencies for Excellence in the Profession, and university based as well as CSU system wide policies, procedures, and guidelines for student organizations and activities.
