The Pleistocene lake that formed along the Mojave River behind a dam at Afton Canyon (between Barstow and Baker) is called Lake Manix. Here our group is once again standing on an old beach ridge that formed at the east end of Lake Manix, where the Interstate 10 offramp to Afton Canyon exists today.
