This polished rock surface is along a fracture through the Topanga Canyon Formation. Such a polished surface is formed when adjacent rocks on the two sides of the fracture move past one another during faulting. This exposure is on the east side of the East Topanga Fire Road where it is crossed by the Topanga Fault.
