California State University Grants

State University Grant

State University Grant

The State University Grant (SUG) is available to eligible undergraduate, credential and graduate students. The Financial Aid & Scholarship Department determines which students meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Students must be California residents.
  • Students must file a FAFSA by the March 2 priority deadline.
  • Students must be eligible based on their estimated family contribution.
  • Students who have received this grant in the past may not be awarded in subsequent years if funds are unavailable.
  • Students who receive tuition/fee waivers, vocational rehabilitation or sponsored tuition/fee waivers are not eligible. Those pursuing a second bachelor's, second master's or a second credential are also not eligible.
  • State University Grants are prorated based on enrollment status. If awarded a SUG, student must maintain at least half-time enrollment. If the student is not enrolled at least half time, the SUG will be canceled.

Educational Opportunity Program

Educational Opportunity Program

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) serves students who come from disadvantaged economic or educational backgrounds. The program provides admission, academic and financial assistance to eligible undergraduate students. Only students who are admitted to the university by the EOP admissions process and enroll at least half time are eligible for EOP grant consideration. Students are considered for EOP based on their estimated family contribution and the availability of funds. Funding for this program is extremely limited.

Beginning with the 2012-2013 academic year, EOP grant awards will be prorated based on enrollment status. Below is the revised 2012-2013 EOP grant award amount based on enrollment.

2012-2013 EOP Grant Award Amounts, based on enrollment
Enrollment status Amount per term
Full time (12 or more units) $800
Three-quarter time (9-11 units) $600
Half time (6-8 units) $400
Less than half time $0

Please keep in mind that not all students admitted to the Educational Opportunity Program receive the EOP grant; fund availability is limited.
