Is Summer Aid Available?
Yes. Limited financial aid is available for the summer term to students who qualify. Summer financial aid may consist of Federal Pell Grant, State University Grant, Stafford Loan and/or Perkins Loan.
What Are the Requirements?
- To be considered for summer aid, you must be a continuing CSUN student AND have a 2008-09 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Financial Aid and Scholarship Department by May 30, 2009. If you already completed a 2008-09 FAFSA, you do NOT need to submit another one for summer aid.
- Summer 2009 is considered the last term for the 2008-2009 academic year. Summer financial aid availability depends on whether you have already used your full eligibility amount of Federal Grants and Loans during the summer 2008, fall 2008 and/or spring 2009 terms. The State University Grant will be available to those who qualify.
- Loans are available for the summer term for those who qualify. To request a summer loan, you must be enrolled at least half time and you must submit a Summer Loan Activation Form by August 14, 2009.
- Registering at the same time for all summer term classes in one or more sessions will facilitate the processing of your financial aid request. Your summer aid eligibility is based on your total units of enrollment in all summer sessions.
- You will be notified by E-mail of your eligibility for summer financial aid beginning in April 2009.
How Does It Work?
- Enroll in enough total units to be eligible for a payment.
- Once you have registered for summer classes, you will be automatically awarded any Pell Grant eligibility you have left and you will be considered for the State University Grant based on your need. To be considered for a summer loan, you must be enrolled at least half time and you must submit a Summer Loan Activation Form by August 14, 2009.
- Submit all required documents as listed in your "To-Do List" by June 30, 2009. Log on to the myNorthridge Portal, look under My Path to Graduation, and select Student Center (SOLAR). The "To Do List" is located on the right side of the page.
- Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Summer financial aid will begin disbursing the week of May 26th to those who qualify and weekly thereafter.
- In order to have your enrollment protected, you must have enough Anticipated Aid for the summer term.
- Fees, housing obligations and other costs (except parking) are deducted from your financial aid balance check.
How Much Am I Eligible to Receive?
The amount and type of summer aid you will be eligible for will depend on many factors, including grade level, need, and whether you have exhausted your eligibility for federal grants and loans during the regular 2008-2009 academic year. If you are unsure about your exact circumstance, you can always check with the Financial Aid and Scholarship Department. Although we will be unable to process your summer aid on a walk-in basis, you may see a counselor, during regular walk-in hours, to obtain an estimate of your summer aid eligibility.
