Is summer the first or the last term of the academic year?
Summer is the first term of the academic year.
What is available for participants in the Early Start Summer Program?
State University Grant is available for California Residents who file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and whose Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is $6,500 or lower. The EFC is calculated by the Federal Central Processor based on information provided by the student and his/her parent(s) on the FAFSA. The State University Grant (SUG) is equal to the State University Fee charged to the student’s account.
Does the aid received in summer affect the student’s aid for the following fall or spring?
No. Since the only aid awarded for Early Start Summer participants is the State University Grant, it does not affect the amount of aid available to the student for the following fall and spring.
When will the aid be paid?
The aid cannot be paid into the students’ accounts until after July 1. The first payment is scheduled for July 10.
What does an Early Start Summer participant need to do to qualify for the aid?
The participant must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by May 16, 2008. If additional documents are requested by the Financial Aid & Scholarship Department, the participant must return the documents within 21 days to complete the file.
When will the Early Start Summer participants be awarded?
During the week of May 19th, a list will be produced identifying all First-time Freshmen who have been placed in the appropriate student group and who have applied on the FAFSA, have completed their files, are California Residents with a maximum $6,500 EFC, AND who are enrolled in at least one Early Start Summer Program class. These students will be manually awarded as quickly as possible prior to the start of the summer classes.
Do the students need to pay their fees before financial aid is awarded to avoid being disenrolled?
Although we make every effort to protect the enrollment of financial aid students, it is always safest for a student to pay fees on time and be reimbursed by financial aid later.
