Welcome!

Spring is in the air and many of our current students are looking forward to Commencement and making plans for their futures. It is an exciting time of year and we celebrate your accomplishments with you. We are proud to have been a part of your success and achievements. We will enjoy watching you walk by our windows wearing your caps and gowns and black robes with your joyful families surrounding you. We wish you well on your new journeys.

At the same time we are welcoming to our campus our newest Matadors who will join us this summer and in the fall. We want you to know that we are here to help you reach your graduation day, too. Not only do we process your financial aid applications and offer you financial assistance to continue your studies, but we offer many learning opportunities through workshops, campus events, and classroom visits. Please take advantage of these offerings to learn how to budget, make informed financial decisions about student loans and credit cards, and how to manage debt. Most importantly, you need to learn how to balance work and borrowing in a way that will allow you to focus primarily on your academic work. That’s what you are here for!

Remember that your academic success is important to maintaining financial aid eligibility. You must enroll in classes that support your graduation and you must complete those classes with passing grades. Also, the number of units you enroll in can affect the types and amount of aid we can offer you. We first award you aid based on full-time enrollment, but may be able to offer you reduced aid if you are unable to enroll full-time.

Remember to check the myNorthridge Portal and CSUN Email frequently, and respond quickly to any requests from our department. The earlier you complete your paperwork and Loan Counseling the quicker we can get you your award and your funds. If you are graduating and have taken out student loans, do not forget to keep your lender updated with your address changes. It is your obligation to repay your loans, but your lenders are willing to work with you if you have circumstances that will interfere with your ability to repay.

If you have any questions, please ask us. You can get answers at our counter in the first floor lobby of Bayramian Hall, on the telephone at (818) 677-4085, or by email at financial.aid@csun.edu.

Have a good semester, work hard and achieve more!

With warm regards,

Lili Vidal, Director
