Dr. Love graduated with a Great Distinction in child development from UC Berkeley. She studied social
work at the University of Washington, receiving both a MSW & PhD. She practiced child and family social
work for over 25 years (including psychiatric hospitals, child welfare, hospital emergency room
assessments, hospice, and community practice) in Seattle. She then taught at USC & CSULB for 7 years
before joining CSUN’s SW Department as a professor in 2007. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
awarded Professor Love $1.2M to develop and research an online platform for an evidence-based
parenting intervention for children with, or at high risk for, severe emotional and behavioral problems.
She has over 20 research publications in child development including Love, et al. (2016). Social media

International Publishing. Dr. Love has a great passion for teaching students how to understand human
development within the context of family and community and how to effectively practice Social Work
with vulnerable individuals, families, and communities.
