A career-long exercise physiologist, I have done traditional laboratory research with a focus on improving cardiovascular fitness (VO2 max) utilizing a variety of modalities and training programs. This lead me to running the Los Angeles Fire Department's wellness program but more recently an understanding that our greatest impact as kinesiology professionals may be in the public health arena; activating the population of which the majority are physically inactive. Since 2011, we have been conducting 3 WINS Fitness which we believe is a replicable and scalable model for improving the health of Americans through a free sustainable exercise program conducted by kinesiology students. Our program has been recognized at the White House and been replicated in several universities and we are dedicated to scaling the program across the United States. It is a program with the 3 WINS emphasis on participant health, community health, and student professional development. The development of kinesiology students soft skills, the skills of communication, which will help them convey their knowledge to participants and gain leadership skills that will serve them well throughout their career is one of our paramount wins. Everyone needs to be a better communicator and 3 WINS can help us be the most effective professional with the capacity to simultaneously improve the health of America.
