Dr. Liu's research includes accessible computing and assistive technology, which fit within the broader human-computer interaction (HCI) field. At CSUN, he co-directs the Human-Computing Laboratory (HCL), which improves the accessibility for people with disabilities when they interact with new computing devices and emerging digital content. Research results were published at premier conferences, including the ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility (ASSETS) and the SIGCHI Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work & Social Computing (CSCW). Projects at HCL have been supported by NSF, USDA, NASA, Army Research, Amazon, Northrop Grumman, Disability Communication Fund, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, and other agencies and organizations. Through his experience, Dr. Liu believes that "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" in human-computer interaction.
