There are some excellent possibilities at CSUN to further your development as an instructor and scholar.
- The Office of Research and Sponsored Projects is dedicated to assisting faculty and staff in obtaining research and creative activity support from federal, state, corporate, and foundation sponsored programs.
- Judge Julian Beck Grants: Faculty Development, through the Judge Julian Beck Endowment, provides funding to conduct projects that show promise of enhancing instruction at the University. The application is usually due early in March for the following year and grants reassigned time or up to $5000.
- CSUN Annual Research and Creative Activity Awards: Offered by the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects. The competition is open to all faculty, who may apply for three units of release time or a $5,000 mini-grant. To promote research and creative activities among new faculty, those who have been at CSUN for three or fewer years will be considered separately.
- Faculty Development sponsors the Probationary Faculty Support Program. This program assists tenure track probationary faculty in meeting the qualifications for retention, tenure or promotion by providing a limited number of faculty release time assignments during the academic year. Released time, up to three units, will be given to selected faculty. Applications are usually due in November. For more information, contact Kiren Dosanjh Zucker at Faculty Development at x5934.
- Online Course Development Stipends: Offered by the Office of Online Instruction to develop a completely online upper-division GE course. $500 offered to develop a web-enhanced course that is taught half-online and half in a regular classroom. Applications are typically due in January or February.
- Faculty Mentor Training: The Educational Opportunity Program offers reassigned time to faculty participants who wish to enhance their ability to mentor students who are underprepared or at risk of dropping out. Contact Glenn Omatsu, Coordinator; extension 4151.
- Community Engagement provides opportunities and support for pedagogy and research. Contact Merri Whitelock, Managing Director of Community Engagement; extension 7395.
- Check with your the Office of the Dean of your College about college research funds.
- Fulbright Scholarships: Available through Student Development and International Programs.
