As part of the Center for Innovative and Engaged Learning Opportunities (CIELO), Faculty Development seeks to:
- promote effective teaching and learning practices;
- foster faculty members’ professional growth;
- strengthen collegial ties; and
- support the scholarship of teaching and learning at CSUN.
Through workshops, book groups, discussion forums, research grants, and services for faculty, Faculty Development offers CSUN faculty members a number of opportunities to:
- learn from CSUN colleagues as they share their innovative teaching and learning practices;
- join cross-disciplinary learning communities;
- explore with other members of the CSUN community topics relevant to campus life;
- obtain funding for research; and
- develop professionally.

Faculty Development sponsors a variety of workshops on significant issues related to teaching and learning, facilitated by CSUN faculty, visiting experts, or the Director. Faculty Development hosts the New Faculty Orientation Day, as well as year-long new faculty programs (see the New Faculty Survival Guide).
