Clásica – Las Raíces de la Música – Folklorica, tradicional y clásica
(The Roots of Music Folk, Traditional and Classic) explores the connection
between the roots of Latin, Hispanic and Classical music.
Guest Artists:
Martin Espino with MEXIKA, Luis Villegas and Co.
Classically trained professional musician Martin Espino has brought instruments of his ancestral Mexicano heritage “back to life” since 1975 for performances and educational events. His group MEXIKA brings a virtual museum of historic instruments to performances, introducing their unique musical legacy to audiences.
Internationally renowned guitarist Luis Villegas – a first-generation Mexican-American born in East Los Angeles – grew up between two musical cross-currents: the traditional music he heard at home and the rock ‘n’ roll of Hollywood’s Sunset Strip. His guitar virtuosity spans classical to rock to jazz, earning Grammy nominations and acclaim across the nation.
