Chemistry Placement Test (CPT )
Enrollment in Chemistry 101:
“Students planning to enroll in CHEM 101/101L must satisfy the following requirements prior to registration:
- Satisfactory score on the CSUN Chemistry Placement Test (CPT).
- Score of 3, 4, or 5 on the College Board Advanced Placement Test in Chemistry.
- Score of 48 or higher on the CLEP General Chemistry Examination.
- Grade of “C” or better (C- is unacceptable) in CHEM 105 TAKEN AT CSUN.
- The Chemistry Placement Test covers high school chemistry and applied algebra. Students who fail the CPT may enroll in CHEM 101/101L after completing CHEM 105 AT CSUN with a grade of “C” or better (C- is unacceptable) or after retaking the CPT and scoring 40 or above.

Time:
10:30 AM – Do not be late; latecomers will not be tested.
Testing For:
CHEM 101/101L (60 multiple choice questions, 55 minutes)
Location:
Bank Building (on Plummer, north of the Engineering Building)
Must Bring:
- Valid photographic identification.
- #2 pencils with erasers.
- $5.00 (check or money order preferred, payable to “CSUN”).
Additional Info:
- Successful completion of the ELM is a prerequisite for this test.
- No calculators are allowed for this examination.
- Students only test once in a 6-month period.
- Monitor campus road construction signs and the CSUN web site www.CSUN.edu for detour information.
Registration:
No registration is required. Arrive with required materials.
Scores:
Results available in the Testing Center (SB 225) one week after test administration.

The Chemistry Department recommends reviewing the chapter summaries of a high school chemistry textbook.
