Add/Drop Policy

Students majoring in English are encouraged to take a foreign language as part of their college program. Competence in one or more foreign languages is a common requirement for advanced degrees.

Students are strongly encouraged to sample a variety of Department courses when choosing their electives. These might include courses on individual authors, particular genres, critical theory, or special themes, such as ethnicity and/or gender, as well as courses on foreign literature in translation, and various interdisciplinary courses.
