1. Announcements:

  • The College of Humanities Faculty Fellowship and Grant Program seeks proposals for projects involving a course release, funding for a student assistant, or funding for research-related travel. Proposals are due in the Dean’s Office by 5 p.m. March 21. For more information, visit http://www.csun.edu/~humndean/cgi-bin/publications.php.
  • Faculty and staff can learn about university budget and college planning processes at a couple of All College Meetings next week. President Jolene Koester and Provost Harry Hellenbrand will meet with faculty and staff 11 a.m. to noon on Feb. 25 in the Whitsett Room (Sierra Hall 451); and Dean Elizabeth Say will meet with faculty and staff 3-4 p.m. on Feb. 26 in the Whitsett Room. Light refreshments will be served at both meetings.
 

2. Reminders:

 
  • The deadline for nominations for CSUN Faculty Awards is Feb. 25. The deadline for the receipt of supporting materials is March 24. The Faculty Awards consist of Outstanding Faculty (up to two awarded), $1,700 each; Distinguished Teaching, Counseling, or Librarianship (up to three awarded), $1,200 each; Scholarly Publication(s), $1,200; Extraordinary Service, $1,200; and Visionary Community Service Learning, $1,000. Tenure-track and adjunct faculty can be nominated. For more information, please visit http://www.csun.edu/senate/awards.html.
  • The Northridge Review is now accepting submissions of drama, fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry for the Fall 2008 issue. The deadline is Feb. 25. Submissions are limited to five poems or a maximum of 20 pages for drama, fiction, and creative non-fiction. Please include a cover letter with your name, address, and telephone number, but do not include your name on the manuscripts. Submissions can be dropped off in the English Department office on the seventh floor of Sierra Tower.
 

3. Faculty/Student/Staff Achievements:

 
  • Ranita Chatterjee's article entitled "Charlotte Dacre's Nymphomaniacs and Demon-Lovers: Teaching Female Masculinities" has been published in Masculinities in Text and Teaching, edited by Ben Knights (Palgrave Macmillan 2008). Her article discusses the theoretical necessity of a queer pedagogy for Dacre's apparently misogynist and violent 1806 gothic novel.

Lectures and Other Events 
  • The Center on Disabilities is hosting an open house for faculty and staff from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 in Bayramian Hall 110. A light lunch will be provided. At the open house, visitors can meet the center’s staff and learn about the resources and services offered by the center.
 Jobs and Other Opportunities  
  • The California Writer’s Club-San Fernando Valley offers workshops and speaker events for its members. The group meets on the second Saturday of each month 1-3 p.m. at the Encino Community Center (4935 Balboa Blvd., Encino, Calif.). Student fees are $20 per year.   • Loyola Marymount University seeks a full-time visiting assistant professor in rhetoric, composition, and literature for a one-year appointment beginning in Fall 2008 with the possibility of renewal.
