Engineering Shop

The engineering shop is available to faculty, staff and students to support instructional, research, and senior design projects as well as generally supporting the physical operational needs of the college.

A Technical Shop Work Request form is available that must be filled out for job tracking purposes. This form is to be used for all technical, instructional, and operational support requests. This form is available in each of the department offices as well as the technical shop facilities (rooms JD1615, JD1572, JD1605, JD1581). Students must have their professors' approval signature before the request will be considered.

Jerry came to us from the construction industry and is familiar with all aspects of construction. Jerry also serves as the Safety Officer for the College. This includes administering the safety tests for equipment and vehicles as well as supervising the disposal and storage of all hazardous materials (Haz-Mat).

Faculty, staff and students are welcome to use the machine shop, carpentry shop, and weld booth under the supervision of shop personnel, after first passing the respective safety test.

Jose repairs a wide range of electronic equipment including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, curve tracers, frequency generators, etc. Jose also helps students and faculty with electronic projects and classroom support. This includes providing support for the "Center Room" (room JD1605), 677-4541, where electronic kits and equipment are checked out to students in the labs.

Supervision of shop personnel and activities is handled jointly by the chairs of the Departments of Mechanical and Electrical & Computer Engineering. These chairs are responsible for resolving budgetary issues and priority assignments as the need may arise.

The engineering shop personnel are also responsible for the building lock-up on scheduled class days during the semester. The college maintains one electric vehicle, two forklifts and a truck for CECS use. The shop personnel are responsible for receiving all deliveries of large equipment and bulk materials as well as storing and distributing them. These personnel also set up tables and chairs for special events and pick up and deliver donations to the college.
