COE Self-Care Fall 2017

Dear College of Education Staff and Faculty,

Welcome back to a new academic year, and an exciting new semester of COE staff and faculty self-care!

This year Carolyn Jeffries will be taking the lead in coordinating self-care activities. Please check in with her if you have self-care ideas, questions, or interests.

We are proud to begin this fall with an exciting announcement that an article on our COE self-care program was just published in Inside Higher Ed! Thanks to all of the faculty and staff who have supported self-care efforts in the COE! You can read this article at

This fall, we will be begin with a self-care preview session on Sept. 5th complete with leaders of self-care sharing upcoming activities and a great lunch. We will also be launching a new activity this fall called Weight Winners, a bi-monthly weight management group with Vanessa Villavicencio as leader.  In addition, we will be offering favorites, like mindfulness meditation holistic health practices, and nutrition tips. Please look for weekly emails on upcoming self-care activities, and keep checking this website. 

Below are some September self-care activity highlights:

Sept 5th, Tuesday 12-1 ED 1214/1216 Self-care Preview with Rosemary Martin, Carolyn Jeffries, Shari Tarver Behring, and Vanessa Villavicencio. And today and every Tuesday this semester from 2-2:30 in the CTL Conference Room: Meditation Moments. Come take advantage of regular mediation sessions this semester, with some easy yet rejuvenating chair yoga as an added benefit.

Sept. 19th Tuesday 12-1 ED 1214 Weight Winners: Vanessa Villavicencio will lead bi-monthly weight management sessions this semester with tips for low calorie entrees! And 2-2:30 Meditation Moments.

Sept. 20th, Wednesday CSUN faculty and Staff Wellness and Benefits Fair at the Student Recreation Center

Sept. 26th, Tuesday 12-1 ED 1214 Weight Winners:  Vanessa Villavicencio leads weight management sessions. And 2-2:30 Meditation Moments
