Mexico Teacher Project

This teacher-based k-12 project is celebrating 15 successful years at CSUN's College of Education. The focus is on multi-cultural experiences through immersion in cross-cultural settings. Students teach ESL lessons and live with Mexican families in Ensenada, Mexico. The "Familias Para Niños" orphanage was founded by CSUN students and continues to this day as part of the program. No Spanish is necessary to participate. This program is open to all CSUN student teacher candidates, alumni and members of the local community. Programa Centro de Investigaciones Didacticos y Organizacion Cultural

Teacher Candidates are exposed to a language and cultural immersion program that focuses on teaching creative lesson plans in English to Mexican High School students in Ensenada, Mexico. Teacher candidates, also, compare and contrast the Mexican Public School System; Mexico’s Teacher Training Programs; and local Mexican culture with U.S. Cultural Norms.

Teacher Candidates spend time at a local Orphanage (Familias Para Ninos – Founded by CSUN students in 1989.) Donations of clothes, food, etc. are taken to them once a semester, Fall, Summer, and Spring.

There have been over 4,500 CSUN students that have successfully completed the program, since 1986. The Institute has received both National and International Awards over the years.
