Eliza Corpuz Chosen as Alumni Ambassador for U.S. State Department Critical Language Scholarship Program

Several years ago, while taking Chinese language courses at Pasadena City College, Eliza won a Critical Language Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State to take part in a program to expand the number of Americans mastering foreign languages critical to our national security and economic prosperity. She has now been chosen to be an Alumni Ambassador for the program and is the principal advisor for CSU Northridge. She will be representing us at the upcoming HACU conference in San Diego.

Dimpal Jain Receives NSF Grant

Dimpal Jain received an NSF grant for $3 million dollars. The grant is titled “Creating Opportunities for Minoritized Undergraduate Students to Participate in Mentored Research” with Gaby Chavira, Crist Khachikian, Melanie Bocanegra, and Chris Stanford as Principal Investigators.  Dr. Jain will serve as a faculty fellow. Congratulations, Dr. Jain! Project CREATE: Preparing Culturally Responsive Early Educators in Teacher Education

Congratulations to Dr. Zhen Chai and the rest of the Project CREATE team for receiving a United States Department of Education award in the amount of $1.1 million. The purpose of this project is to support a newly modified Early Childhood Special Education Preliminary Credential Program and to prepare competent culturally responsive early childhood special educators/early interventionists who will be eligible for the California Preliminary Education Specialist Credential. Education on the Edge: Translucent Panel Discussion

Participants are kindly asked to watch translucent prior to this event by using the link below. translucent is the moving 24 minutes documentary about a young adult's gender transition journey and was a finalist for the 48th annual Student Academy Awards. CSUN alum, Avery Fox, the subject of the documentary and co-director of the film will join a diverse panel of varying perspectives on the topic of how educators and families can best support transgender individuals. Surpassing Our Teacher Education Enrollment Goals

There is a severe teacher shortage in our schools, leaving many students in classrooms without prepared educators to move them toward academic success. The Michael D. Eisner College of Education provided the most new teachers hired by LAUSD this year of any College of Education with 19% of the 3108 teachers hired from CSUN. This was possible because as one of the largest California State University Colleges of Education, we met and surpassed teacher education enrollment goals for the second year in a row. Read more
