Resilience is influenced by the amount of risk and protective factors that an individual experiences.  Some have suggested that being deaf is not a resilience risk factor but that internalizing the society’s negative perspective of being deaf (internalizing audism) is the risk factor.  Dr. Kurz and her team researched the degree in which deaf students internalize audism, comparing resistance verses internalization and the long-term effect.  This presentation gives an overview of audism resistance through providing deaf students access to the deaf community, sign language, and access to Deaf Capital (knowledge on how to navigate life as deaf individuals).

Interpreters will be provided.
