Professional Interests:
Teacher Preparation, particularly in the areas of teaching reading and collaborative service models. Research interests include teaching reading to older struggling students, fluency interventions, RTI and grouping practices in reading instruction. Also interested in collaborative and inclusive practices, particularly their effects on acquisition of reading skills.
Background:
Sally has taught students grades K-6 in a variety of settings and schools throughout Los Angeles, including self-contained special education classes, pull-out programs, and as a co-teacher in a variety of inclusive settings. She was the recipient of the 2001 Special Educator of the Year award from the California Chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children, and was a 1999-2000 Leadership Grant Recipient from the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education. She presents nationally on the topics of teaching reading to students with mild/moderate disabilities, as well as inclusive practices and co-teaching. Her greatest passion is teaching children to read and helping other teachers teach children to read.
