SSUIP - Frequently Asked Questions
- What are the requirements for admission to SSUIP?
Hold a full-time teaching position in a public middle school or high school.
Have passed CBEST.
Have met the subject matter requirement in your teaching field by examination or subject waiver.
- CSET Examinations or
- 100% subject matter waiver program by department clearance
Have met the U. S. Constitution requirement by course or examination.
- How do I get started?
Make an appointment with one of the Co-Directors of SSUIP at (818) 677-2224. The Co-Directors will
guide you through the process.
a. Complete the CSUN Graduate Admissions application (only available online www.csumentor.edu).
b. Submit a copy of the confirmation number information to one of the SSUIP Co-Director.
c. Complete the application to the Single Subject University Intern Program.
d. Complete the application for the University Intern Credential.
Submit the completed confirmation number and applications (b, c & d) to a Co-Director for review.
You will then submit the application to the Credential Office.
- Where do I get information about CSET, CBEST, etc.?
Contact the Credential Office at (818) 677-2586.
Go online at http://www.csun.edu/coe/cred for information and applications.
- How will I know that my Credential Application has been processed?
After you submit all of the necessary paperwork to the Credential Office, including the Credential
Request Form. The Credential Office will email the CCTC with your information. In turn, you will
receive email instructions for submitting payment for the Intern Credential. You will also receive
information from CCTC that you will need to submit to the employing district. This process is up to
you to complete, so please follow all directions in a timely manner. If you have any questions, the
Credential Office can help.
- How long is the Intern Program?
The Intern Program can be completed within two years plus one summer term. Interns may enter the
program in the fall or spring semesters.
It is possible to complete the program in a shorter, depending upon the number of courses taken each
semester. In order to do so, a Co-Director must approve a Personalized Plan must be approved.
- When are the Intern classes offered?
Classes are offered in the late afternoon and evening (4:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.) during the academic year
and summer term.
Courses are restricted the first year for University Interns, who take the first two semesters of
coursework in cohorts. The restricted ticket numbers and permission numbers for these classes are
available prior to registration.
- Where are the Intern Classes held?
The first year of the program classes are held at the DELTA Professional Development Center at
Francis Polytechnic High.
The second year classes and summer term classes are held on CSUN campus.
- How do I register for classes?
Approximately six weeks prior to the registration period, you will receive your mailed Registration
Packet from Admissions and Records. Your pin number and directions will be enclosed.
Obtain the ticket numbers and permission numbers from the Intern Program for SED 511, SED 521,
SED 593, and SED 594. Other courses and departments might require permission numbers. You will
be able to find that out when you register.
Take care of any "holds" on your registration process. This will be noted in your Registration Packet.
Follow the directions for registration by accessing SOLAR http://www.csun.edu/portal to register. You
will need your nine digit CSUN ID and four-digit PIN for SOLAR.
To avoid difficulties with the registration process, be sure to register at your priority appointment time
and meet payment deadlines.
- What must be completed prior to the final field experience, SED 555I (formerly student teaching)?
Maintain an overall 3.0 GPA in all credential courses.
All prerequisite courses must be completed before taking 555I. A Co-Director must approve of any
courses to be completed concurrently or after 555I.
- How do I apply for the final field experience, SED 555I?
Download the application form from the website. Submit form to one of the Intern Co-Directors. The
co-director will submit the form to the Credential Office. You must complete all prerequisites required
prior to clearance for SED 555I.
- Do I need to be assigned to another classroom to do my final field experience (formerly student
teaching)?
You will do your final field experience in your own classroom. You will be assigned a university
supervisor and an on-site collaborating teacher to supervise your final field experience.
- What must be completed to receive the preliminary credential?
Complete single subject credential requirements.
Obtain Preliminary Credential Application from the Credential Office.
Submit completed applications as directed.
- What about Financial Aid opportunities?
Explore mini-grants, APLE grant, regular grants, forgivable loans, and other financial aid opportunities
by visiting Financial Aid, Room 130, CSUN Student Services Building or by going online at
www.csun.edu/finaid.
Visit the Credential Office reception area for additional financial aid opportunities.
- What is the cost of the Intern Program? Fees are based on Fall 2007.
The State University Teaching Credential Fees for 0-6.0 units is $1,222.
The State University Teaching Credential Fees for 6.0+ units is $1,897.
Total fees for the two year Intern Program will approximately total $4,800, excluding summer sessions.
The State University Fee for Summer Term for 0-6.0 units varies each year.
