Dr.Shartriya Collier came to CSUN in 2005. She has been an educator for over 10 years. Ms. Collier has taught a variety of grades ranging from teaching first grade in Honduras, Central America to teaching creative writing to high school students in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She earned her B.A. in Spanish from Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Shartriya received her Master's degree in Bilingual/Bicultural Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She completed her doctorate in Language Education with an emphasis in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Temple University in Philadelphia. Her research interests include immigrant women entrepreneurs and language use, biliteracy development, immigrant family literacy, and the writing workshop in ELL classrooms.
