Education Professor Deborah Chen (Special Education) presented “Dual Language Learning in Children with Severe Disabilities: In Support of Home Language Maintenance” at the 2012 TASH Conference (formerly known as The Association for Persons with Severe Handicaps), Long Beach, California, November 29, 2012. In addition, Dr. Chen presented “Recommended Practices Toolbox: Promoting Dual Language Learning in Young Children with Disabilities” at the Division for Early Childhood’s (DEC) 28th Annual International Conference on Young Children with Special Needs and Their Families, Minneapolis, Minnesota, October 29, 2012. Dr. Chen also presented “Developing Functional Skills for Children with Complex Needs: Focus on Vision and Hearing” for the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, October 24, 2012.

Education Professor Cynthia Desrochers (InnovatED Editor) presented the keynote address/workshop on “Six Powerful Principles that Help to Explain How Learning Works” to all faculty of Al Buraimi University College in Buraimi, Oman, January 8, 2013. Education Professor Norman Herr (Secondary Education) presented “Continuous Formative Assessment During Science Instruction” for the Association of Science Teacher Educators, Charleston, South Carolina, January 11, 2013. In addition, Dr. Herr presented “The Use of Collaborative Web-Based Documents to Create Scientific Research Communities in Physics Classrooms” for the America Association of Physics Teachers, Northridge, California, November 3, 2012.

Education Lecturer Steve Holle (Elementary Education) presented “Using Instructional Intelligence to Enhance Class Participation” to visiting Chinese scholars at CSUN, November 9, 2012. In addition, Mr. Holle co-presented with Drs. Sally Spencer (Special Education) and Renee Zoilkowska (Elementary Education) on “Active Learning in the University: Practical Strategies for Engaging Our Students” for CSUN faculty, November 6, 2012.

Education Associate Professor Emeritus (Special Education) and part-time instructor (Deaf Studies) Joyce Linden presented “Communication Strategies and Resources” to hard of hearing senior citizens and their companions who are members of SAGE (Study, Activity, Growth, Enrichment), a learning in retirement organization sponsored by the CSUN Tseng College of Extended Learning, Northridge, January 18, 2013.

Education Professor Al Nava (Secondary Education) presented “Toward the Common Good: U.S. Latino Military Horse Cavalry Las Lunas, New Mexico, 1850-1851” for social studies history teachers, Albuquerque, New Mexico, November 24, 2012.

Associate Professor Kathy Peckham-Hardin (Special Education) presented “Supporting Literacy for Students with Moderate and Severe Disabilities” for teachers, staff, and higher education faculty, Oakland, California, January 7, 2012.

Associate Professor Kathleen Rowlands (Secondary Education) presented “Keep Calm and Lead On: Guiding Colleagues Successfully through the CCCSS Reading and Writing Standards” at the annual California Association of Teachers of English (CATE) conference, Santa Clara, California, February 8, 2013. In addition, Dr. Rowlands presented “Changing Instructional Culture: Reflective Practice and Common Core Writing Standards” at the Conference on English Leadership, Las Vegas, Nevada, November 18, 2012.

Education Professor Zhixin Su (Educational Leadership and Policy Studies) presented “Chinese Education in Americans' Eyes” at UNESCO’s 7th International Forum on Teacher Education, Shanghai, China, 2012. In addition, Dr. Su presented “American Education in Chinese Eyes” at the 11th Hawaii International Conference on Education, Honolulu, Hawaii, 2013.
