Education Professors Deborah Chen and Michele Haney (Special Education) and Saraswathi Nambi (Special Day Class Preschool Teacher, Barbara Webster Elementary School, Santa Paula Elementary School District, and recent graduate of our early childhood special education credential and MA programs) co-presented “Supporting Early Dual Language Learning: Experiences of Families and Professionals” at the annual International Conference on Young Children with Special Needs and Their Families in National Harbor, Maryland on November 11, 2011.
Education Professor Cynthia Desrochers (InnovatED Editor) gave the keynote address “Crows? Cut the Flap and Classroom HIPs (High-Impact Practices)” at the annual Welcome Back to the Bay conference at CSU East Bay in Hayward, California on September 15, 2011.
Education Professor Bonnie Ericson (Secondary Education, FERP) led the roundtable “Of Mice and Men” at the National Council of Teachers of English fall convention in Chicago, Illinois on November 18, 2011. Dr. Ericson also presented “Promoting Literacy Learning in an Urban High School: Lessons Building Academic Language” the following day.
Education Associate Professors Brian Foley and Mike Rivas (Secondary Education) co-presented “Collecting, Sharing, Analyzing and Interpreting Whole-Class Data Using Cloud-Based Collaborative Documents” at the Association for Science Teacher Education in Clearwater, Florida on January 6, 2012.
Education Associate Professor Robert Kladifko, Research Associate Jinyi Li, and Assistant Professor Jody Dunlap (Educational Leadership and Policy Studies) co-presented “The School Principal: A Tough Job with Few Takers” at the Summer Conference 2011 of the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration in Portland, Oregon on August 4, 2011.
Education Professor Beth Lasky (Special Education) presented “The EDIT Strategy” for teachers in San Francisco on October 15, 2011. Dr. Lasky also presented “Successful Classroom Management Practices that Enhance Learning of our Diverse Students” for new CSUN faculty at California State University, Northridge on October 19, 2011.
Education Research Associate Jinyi Li (Office of Doctoral Programs) presented “Hot Topics among State Directors of Community Colleges: A Scale Development and Its Psychometrical Properties” at the 53rd Annual Conference of the Council for the Study of Community Colleges in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 4, 2011.
Education Associate Professor Kathleen D. Rowlands (Secondary Education) presented “The Expository Reading and Writing Course: A Curriculum for Crossing into Expository Texts” at the California Association of Teachers of English in Ontario, California on February 10, 2012.
Education Assistant Professor Sally Spencer (Special Education) presented “Paraeducators in Secondary Special Education Classrooms: How Can We Get Our Money’s Worth?” at the Council for Exceptional Children, Teacher Education Division in St Louis, Missouri on November 16, 2011. Dr. Spencer also presented “Collaborate, Communicate and Differentiate: How to Increase Student Learning in Today’s Diverse Schools” for K-12 teachers, parents and administrators in Austin Texas on February 18, 2011.
