In Memoriam: We Celebrate Your Legacy

By Dr. Merril Simon, Professor, Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling, on behalf of the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling

Dr. Greg Jackson

Dr. Gregory C. Jackson was well known and valued at CSUN as both a colleague and good friend across departments in the Eisner College of Education. Greg spent the past 24 years as a professor and the coordinator of the CACREP-accredited Career Counseling program in the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling. His work for this program and his leadership in the professional associations and in advocating for counselor licensure resulted in his being acknowledged as the 2001 Judith Grutter California Career Development Association Practitioner of the Year award winner and the 2003 National Career Development Association Merit Award winner for contributions to the field and as a Nationally Certified Counselor. In the past decade, Greg devoted himself to the broad study of Strengths and shared that knowledge widely at the university and beyond. As well, he served as the commencement speaker for the Eisner College of Education. This past spring, Greg was the recipient of the Blenda J. Wilson Award for Diversity in Education.

Greg leaves behind his loving family—wife, Jay, his son, Damon, daughter-in-law, Cynthia, and grandson, Maceo—as well as his caring colleagues in the EPC department, the College and across the campus, the current Career Counseling students, and the hundreds of alumni who now serve as career development professionals in California and beyond of whom he was exceedingly proud.

Contributions in his memory would be gratefully appreciated for the Greg C. Jackson Scholarship through the Michael D. Eisner College of Education. Please send checks made out to the "CSUN Foundation" with "Greg Jackson Scholarship" written in the notation section to:
