  • Education Associate Professors Susan Auerbach (Educational Leadership and Policy Studies) and Shartriya Collier (Elementary Education) co-authored “Bringing High Stakes from the Classroom to the Parent Center: Lessons from an Intervention Program for Immigrant Families” in Teachers College Record, March 2012.
  • Education Professor Stan Charnofsky (Educational Psychology and Counseling) wrote a book review of Rethinking Depression by Eric Maisel (2012, June/July) in AHP Perspective, Association of Humanistic Psychology. Maisel challenges the psychiatric community and the insurance industry by stating that depression is not a disease but rather a state of unhappiness.
  • Education Professor Deborah Chen and Associate Professor Rachel Friedman Narr (Special Education) co-authored (with a third author from North Carolina) a chapter entitled “Teaching Students Who Have Sensory Disabilities” in Research-based Strategies for Improving Outcomes for Targeted Groups of Learners, (R.A. McWilliam, B.G. Cook, & M. Tankersley, Editors), June 2012.
  • Education Professor Deborah Chen (Special Education) co-authored (with two Cal State Los Angeles faculty) “Two is Better Than One! In Defense of Home Language Maintenance and Bilingualism for Young Children with Disabilities” in Supporting Young Children Who are Dual Language Learners with or At-Risk for Disabilities, Young Exceptional Children Monograph, Division for Exceptional Children of the Council for Exceptional Children (R.M. Santos, G.A. Cheatham, & L. Duran, Editors) 2012.
  • Education Professor Cynthia Desrochers with Management Professor Deone Zell (Senior Director, Academic Technology) authored 2012 updates of Dr. Desrochers’ two 2005 articles to include applications to online learning: “Provided Timely and Frequent Feedback on Tests, Reports, Projects, etc., to Help Students Improve” and "Gave Projects, Tests, or Assignments That Required Original or Creative Thinking.” POD IDEA Center Notes on Instruction (#17 and #19) at http://www.theideacenter.org/research-and-papers/pod-idea-center-notes-instruction.
  • Education Associate Professor Brian Foley (Secondary Education) co-edited (with a UC Davis faculty member) Constructing the Self in a Digital World, wrote one chapter, and co-wrote two additional chapters in this Cambridge University Press publication, 2012.
  • Education Associate Professor Julie Gainsburg (Secondary Education) authored “Why New Mathematics Teacher Do or Don’t Use Practices Emphasized in Their Credential Program” in the Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education, 2012. This report describes the findings from a study conducted as part of CSUN’s Teachers for a New Era Initiative.
  • Education Professor Diane Gehart (Educational Psychology and Counseling) authored Mindfulness and Acceptance in Couple and Family Therapy, a Springer publication, and Theory and Treatment Planning in Counseling, a Cengage publication, both 2012.
  • Education Professor Norman Herr and Associate Professors Mike Rivas and Brian Foley (Secondary Education) co-authored “Employing Collaborative Online Documents for Continuous Formative Assessments” in the March 2012 Proceeding of the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education.
