Dean Michael E. Spagna, Michael D. Eisner College of Education
Borrowing a line from our wonderful President Jolene Koester, California State University, Northridge is truly “a place of abundance.” This phrase aptly describes our Michael D. Eisner College of Education, as you will shortly see through the people and work described in our exciting inaugural issue of InnovatED. Ranging from groundbreaking efforts to promote multi-departmental collaboration through the Transdisciplinary Teacher Development Project, to the reflections of one of our graduates who is currently inspiring young minds as a fourth-grade teacher in Burbank, to the ongoing partnership between the China Institute and the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies to bring a global perspective to our programs and to visiting Chinese school principals and education bureau chiefs, the College continues to demonstrate its value to our community and beyond.
You will also meet some new members of our family, including our very own Web Developer, Mr. Ian Carroll, as well as Drs. Joannie Busillo-Aguayo and Dana Stone in the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling, Dr. Vanessa Goodwin and Ms. Amy Hanreddy in the Department of Special Education, and Dr. Flavia Fleischer, Chair of the Department of Deaf Studies.
If you find any or all of what you read in the following pages appealing, I encourage you to join us in our mission of preparing the best teachers, counselors, administrators, and other professionals to serve the educational needs of our region. Our collective efforts do make a difference…climb aboard for the journey.
