Program Features
- Evening classes meet the needs of working professionals.
- Distinguished faculty provide students with contemporary theories and research applied to real life.
- Community service occurs through fieldwork opportunities including the Early Childhood Education Partnerships for Excellence (see below)
- Leadership skills, such as communication and collaboration, advocacy, ethics and professionalism provide students with flexibility to accomodate new trends in the field.
- Knowledge and expertise focus on: 1) promoting child development and learning; 2) family and community relationships; 3) observing, documenting and assessing young children and families; 4) understanding the teaching and learning process; and 5) ongoing professional development.
- Graduates gain from learning about multicultural and international themes, children with special needs and their families, research methods and technology to promote positive outcomes for children, families, the community and the early childhood profession.
- A diverse, inclusive, and vibrant learning community support each student.
- An emphasis on cultural pathways in development through The Bridging Cultures Project™ - a collaborative action research project emerging from research demonstrating cultural values conflicts in schools and caregiving settings.
Special Programs
- Infant-Toddler-Family Mental Health Certificate, a post-BA program
- The program focuses on optimal strategies for supporting social, emotional, physical, linguistic and cognitive development young children and strengthening their families. Comprised of five courses (15 units), it is offered as a post-baccalaureate certificate program. Several courses may be used toward the MA in Early Childhood Education.
- Early Childhood Education Partnerships for Excellence
- The Early Childhood Education Partnerships for Excellence is a specialized fieldwork experience, pairing advanced graduates with experienced mentors in early childhood education. The teams collaborate with center-based early childhood education programs in the community to support program quality improvement.
