Educational Leadership and Policy Studies Commencement 2012
ELPS 2012 GRADUATE DEGREE HOODING CEREMONY
Date, Time, and Location
The Graduate Degree Hooding Ceremony will be held on campus Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Northridge Center Complex from 4:30 pm until approximately 5:30 pm. This ceremony will precede the entire College of Education’s Commencement Ceremony that will begin on the same day at 6:30 pm on the Oviatt Lawn.
Your Eligibility
Educational Leadership and Policy Studies master’s degree candidates, who are eligible for graduation during Fall 2011, Spring 2012, or Summer 2012, are eligible to participate in this special department-only Hooding Ceremony.
Optional Participation
Although it is optional, participation in this special ceremony adds to the graduation experience by making it possible for faculty, staff, family, and friends to witness the ceremonial hooding of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies candidates in a more intimate setting. This ceremonial hooding does not occur during the Commencement ceremony.
Participation Requirements
In order to participate in the Hooding Ceremony, you should:
- Complete and submit the online RSVP/Survey at http://edutech.csun.edu/surveytool/index.php?sid=85412&lang=en. If you do not plan to participate in the Hooding Ceremony, it is important that you indicate so on the survey.
- Make sure your chosen faculty member has agreed to perform your “hooding” and is planning to attend the Hooding Ceremony.
Please Note: The Hooding Ceremony does not take the place of the Commencement Ceremony. Graduate students who attend the Hooding Ceremony are expected to stay for the Commencement Ceremony in order to walk and have their degrees conferred. If you choose to do so, you may decide to forgo the Hooding Ceremony and participate in the Commencement Ceremony only.
On the Day of the Hooding Ceremony
In order to participate in the Hooding Ceremony, you should:
- Wear the appropriate cap, gown, and hood (aka “regalia”). You may order your regalia online at http://colleges.herffjones.com/college/csun/ until April 29 or in person beginning May 7 at the Matador Bookstore located on campus.
- Arrive 60 minutes before the Hooding Ceremony to allow for parking, signing in and lining up.
- After the Hooding Ceremony, candidates will be dismissed and are expected to meet at the staging area to begin lining up for the Commencement Ceremony at Sierra Quad (the grassy area) behind the bleachers. The entrance procession will begin at 6:30 pm sharp on the Oviatt Library lawn.
Guest Information
The online RSVP/Survey will also ask you to estimate how many of your guests will likely be attending (including yourself). Each graduate is allowed three to five guests in attendance. Tickets will NOT be required and seats may NOT be reserved.
Cap & Gown Ordering Options
- You may order your cap and gown online at http://colleges.herffjones.com/college/csun/ from now until April 29.
- You can also visit the bookstore beginning May 7 in order to rent your regalia in person (although ordering before this date online is strongly advised due to the limited number of rental sizes that may be on-hand). Please contact the bookstore at (818) 677-2932 if you have any questions about this option.
Note: If you did not submit your Application for Master’s Degree and Diploma by the March 2nd deadline, your name may not appear on the bookstore’s list of students who are eligible to order regalia from the bookstore. Please contact Graduate Studies at (818) 677-4800 if you have any questions or difficulties in this regard.
