Message from the Director
Welcome to the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at the Michael D. Eisner College of Education, California State University, Northridge. The CTL was established in 2002 and made possible through a generous gift from the Eisner Foundation. Michael D. Eisner, former Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, his wife Jane, and their sons, Breck, Eric and Anders, have greatly assisted at-risk children and their families through their numerous contributions to non-profit organizations in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas of Southern California
The CTL is the research branch of the College and the mission is to keep CSUN at the forefront of cutting edge innovations in the field of education. By developing highly effective teachers through cohesive professional development our main goal is to create frameworks and programs to prepare teachers, administrators, school counselors, school psychologists and other school related personnel.
The CTL explores these innovations at 2 levels. Internally, in collaboration with the various departments of the College, faculty are studying such diverse areas as Bridging Cultures, Urban Education, Deaf Education, Positive Psychology, Teacher Retention and Burn Out. Externally, we are working with national leaders in the field in our exploration of Mindsets, Resilience, Neurodevelopment, Instructional Intelligence, Study Strategies, Motivation and Content Enhancement.
Operating on the premise that Professional Development is a continuum and that school personnel need and deserve continuity in their training, all personnel engaged in CTL projects focus on Pre Service, In Service, Assessment and Research. At all times, our faculty, external innovators and school based leaders, strive to develop creative and coordinated activities to implement in our K-12 schools.
Feel free to contact the CTL office at 818-677-7494 if you would like to learn more about the Center.
