SINGLE SUBJECT (SECONDARY)
The Single Subject credential authorizes service in K-12 classrooms, in a departmentalized setting, in a variety of fields. This type of classroom structure is found in junior high and high school settings and is used in some middle schools as well.
Traditional Credential Program:
- flexible – full or part time
- fits the needs of most candidates
- may enter the credential program in fall or spring semester
- courses offered late afternoon and evening
- includes coursework, field experiences and seminars
Accelerated Collaborative Teacher (ACT)
- collaboration between CSUN and LAUSD
- full time late afternoons and evenings for coursework and on site during the day
- cohort atmosphere with personalized advising and guaranteed course enrollment
- one on one coaching by experienced classroom teachers
- completed in two semesters
- may enter fall semester only
Junior Year Integrated Program (JYI)
- leads to a bachelor’s degree and Single Subject Credential in English or mathematics concurrently
- must be college ready for English and math courses
- lower division requirements and junior standing must be achieved
- full or part time
- courses are not cohorted
- includes coursework, field experiences and seminars
- may enter the credential program in fall or spring semester
Four Year Integrated Program (FYI) Freshman only
- leads to a bachelor’s degree and Single Subject Credential in English or mathematics concurrently
- must be college ready for math and science
- full time
- includes coursework, field experiences and seminars
- may enter the credential program in fall semester only
Internship
- open to those with a full time offer of employment in a public or charter secondary position
- complete coursework while on the job
- courses offered late afternoon and evening
- includes coursework, field experiences and seminars
