TO THE
CECS
ENGINEERING SHOP
The engineering shop is available to faculty, staff and students
to support instructional, research, and senior design projects
as well as generally supporting the physical operational needs
of the college.
A Technical
Shop Work Request form is available that must be filled out for
job tracking purposes. This form is to be used for
all technical, instructional, and operational support requests. This
form is available in each of the department offices as well as
the technical shop facilities (rooms JD1615, JD1572, JD2207). Students
must have their professors’ approval signature before the
request will be considered.
Machine Shop:
We have a fully equipped machine shop in room JD1615.
The machine shop and its services are the responsibility of Kevin Sullivan.

Kevin learned his art while working at Lockheed for over fifteen
years.
Kevin built mock-ups of the first Stealth Fighters, and eventually he worked
on the prototypes.
Faculty, staff and students are welcome to use the machine shop
under the supervision of shop personnel, after first passing a
machine tool safety test.
Carpentry Shop:
We have a fully equipped carpentry shop in room JD1572.
The carpentry shop and its services are the responsibility of Jerry Siano.

Jerry came to us from the construction industry and is familiar
with all aspects of construction. Jerry also serves as the Safety
Officer for the College. This includes administering the safety
tests for equipment and vehicles as well as supervising the disposal
and storage of all hazardous materials (Haz-Mat).
Faculty, staff and students are welcome to use the carpentry shop
under the supervision of shop personnel, after first passing a
carpentry tool safety test.
Weld Booth:
We have a welding area in room JD1581.

Welding technologies include Tig, Mig, Gas, Heli-Arc and Spot Welding.
We have a large cut-off saw and a chop saw in this area as well as two forklifts.
Kevin and Jerry are skilled in using this equipment.
Faculty, staff and students are welcome to use the weld booth
under the supervision of shop personnel, after first passing a
welding safety test.
Electronic Repair Shop:
We have an electronic repair area located in room JD2207.
The electronic shop and its services are the responsibility of Jose Rivera.

Jose repairs
a wide range of electronic equipment including oscilloscopes,
spectrum analyzers, curve tracers, frequency generators, etc. Jose
also helps students and faculty with electronic projects and classroom
support. This includes providing support for the “Center
Room” (room JD1605), 677-4541, where electronic kits and
equipment are checked out to students in the labs.
Supervision of shop personnel
and activities is handled jointly by the chairs of the Departments
of Mechanical and Electrical & Computer Engineering. These
chairs are responsible for resolving budgetary issues and priority
assignments as the need may arise.
The engineering
shop personnel are also responsible for the building lock-up
on scheduled class days during the semester. The college maintains
one electric vehicle, two forklifts and a truck for
CECS use. The shop personnel are responsible for receiving all
deliveries of large equipment and bulk materials as well as storing
and distributing them. These personnel also set up tables and
chairs for special events and pick up and deliver donations to
the college.
