General
Education: Sections A - F and Title V Requirements
The university's
general education (GE) plan requires that all students complete
a specified number of units in sections A through F in addition
to completing the Title V requirements in U. S. History and Government.
As a computer science major, you will be satisfying some of these
requirements by courses that you take in the major. For example,
as a part of the computer science major, you will be taking five
mathematics courses, these courses will satisfy the section A.3
mathematics requirement and no additional course in that section
is needed.
In order to make sure that you do not take any unnecessary courses,
we recommend that you use the Computer Science
Major General Education Planning Form. It clearly indicates
the units that you are required to take in each of the sections
of GE. Note that if you plan your general education carefully, you
can fulfill these requirements with 13 three unit courses. In order
to determine which courses will satisfy each of these requirements,
refer to the General Education section of the catalog or the current
Schedule of Classes. They will list the courses that meet each of
the requirements listed in the planning form.
In addition to completing the A through F and Title V requirements,
you are also required to complete nine units
of upper division general education . However, with CAREFUL
PLANNING you can complete these requirements as part of
the A through F requirements. They will not require
any more than the 13 courses mentioned above.
All students are encouraged to complete an Computer Science Major General Education
Planning Form and review it with their advisor, department chair
or the associate dean to make sure they do not take any unnecessary
courses.
