Thursday, November 3, 2016 - 2:00pm to 3:30pm

Location:
Human Resources Training Room, Oviatt Library 16, Garden Level

Facilitated By:

Teresa Morrison, Grants Officer, College of Humanities
Stefanie Friesen, Grant Coordinator, Office of Research and Sponsored Projects

Description:

Seeking and securing grant support can play a vital role in faculty development, scholarly standing, and academic advancement. If you’ve never written a grant proposal—or have a little experience but want to ensure that you’re working smart—join us for an overview of available resources as well as tips and techniques to improve your chances for internal and external grant awards. Bring your ideas and be prepared for an interactive discussion on how to define fundamentals and funding strategies for your own projects and research.

At this workshop, you will learn about:

    • Conceptualizing big ideas as fundable “line items”;
    • Locating and identifying appropriate funding sources;
    • Understanding and fully addressing Requests for Proposals (RFPs);
    • Managing time and deadline pressures;
    • Budgeting – need, justification, and agency appeal;
    • Writing – substance, proposal style, and reviewer engagement; and
    • Involving appropriate campus units (Who needs to know, and when?)
