15th ANNUAL ENVISIONING CALIFORNIA CONFERENCE:
DYNAMIC DIVERSITY, EXPANDING THE
CALIFORNIA DREAM
The
Center for Southern California Studies at CSUN has participated in the
annual Envisioning California conference series since 1996, and has been a
primary co-sponsor since 2002. In 2003 CSCS organized and hosted the
conference, which celebrated the diversity of Californians and our
environment, as well as the richness of our cultural, linguistic, age, and
lifestyle communities and the equitable allocation of resources in
our state. The conference addressed issues concerning the challenges
exacerbated by an uncertain economy, an unprecedented state deficit,
and growing crises in healthcare and housing, set against light-speed developments
in technology and business, emerging voices in the arts and
literature, and a fresh look at "new" neighbors within
California. This annual conference not only raises the visibility of the
Center, it helps CSCS contribute to reshaping the state by providing
a public forum for the discussion of critical policy issues affecting
all Californians. CSUN will again co-sponsor the conference in Fall
2004, and will be the convening sponsor again in Fall 2005.
