TRACING YOUR AMERICAN INDIAN ANCESTRY

 

Free Public Program Saturday May 26, 2007 1 PM – 5 PM

This workshop will cover traditional and emerging genealogical resources and other issues related to researching American Indian ancestry.

- Audience survey of tribal identity, extent of research done, and expectations for the workshop.

- Basics of starting and doing genealogy - pedigree chart and family group sheets.

- What family resources can you start with first?

- Handout materials containing a pedigree chart, family group sheet, and a listing of genealogy resources.

- A brief history of records about American Indians - major record groups, their time periods, and what they contain.

- How to access records about American Indians with a PowerPoint demonstration with examples of the records.

- Internet websites for information on records.

- Question and answers.
