Robert Steinmetz, CSUN Class of 1968, serves as an Ambassador for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Cal State University, Northridge in Psychology, and then earned his Master’s degree from CSUN in Human Factors Psychology. In 1979, he received his Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from USC.
Dr. Steinmetz was a member of the technical staff at Hughes Aircraft, Field Services and Support, from 1971 to 1973. He then worked as an Instructional Designer for two of the leading training companies in Southern California. From 1979 to 1998, he was President of Learning Systems Sciences, a nationally recognized leader in the development of computer-based instructional systems, with clients such as IBM, Control Data, Federated Dept. Stores, Washington Mutual and several other Fortune 500 companies. The company later became part of a publicly traded enterprise called Provant.
In 2002, Dr. Steinmetz started a new enterprise, Training Systems Design. He works with clients such as Amgen, Southern California Edison, Pfizer, Wellpoint, Macys and other major corporations.
Dr. Steinmetz is an active community volunteer, lending his time and expertise to several organizations including Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, the CSUN Psychology Department, and two local junior high schools. Dr. Steinmetz is married to fellow CSUN alum and College Ambassador Wendy Spector Steinmetz. They have two children.
