Sylvia Patsaouras

Sylvia PatsaourasSylvia Patsaouras, a member of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Ambassadors, received two Bachelor’s degrees at California State University, Northridge, in Urban Studies (Cum Laude), CSUN Class of 1987, and in Political Science, Class of 1988.  She graduated from the UCLA School of Architecture and Urban Planning with an M.A. degree in Urban Planning and was honored by the UCLA Latino Alumni Association as the 2002 Alumna of the Year. 

Sylvia has worked with various civic and community groups and has been appointed to city, county and state boards. As a State of California Commissioner, she served on the State of California Speaker’s Commission on Regions and on the State of California World Trade Commission. As a County of Los Angeles Commissioner, Sylvia served in the Los Angeles Services Authority Commission for the Homeless, a joint city/county commission, and in the City of Los Angeles Quality and Productivity Commission. She was on the Founding Board of the Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI), a community-based effort which became a national prototype in neighborhood revitalization. Appointed in 2005 by Mayor Villaraigosa, Sylvia also served as a City of Los Angeles Airport Commissioner.

Since 1992, Sylvia has worked as a regional planner at the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), currently as Deputy Director for Regional and Comprehensive Planning.  Her husband Nick earned his Engineering degree from Cal State Northridge in 1966 and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1990.  They have two children and are long-time residents of Tarzana.
